Als business intelligence developer verzamelt u zoveel mogelijk informatie die relevant is binnen het werkveld van jouw organisatie. Hierbij gaat het bijvoorbeeld om financiële data, de toestand van de markt of gegevens over klanten, concurrenten of producten. Maar ook de trend op het gebied van economie, technologie en cultuur ontgaand bij u niet. Het doel van een business intelligence developer is het analyseren van de verzamelde gegevens om hiermee beslissingsondersteunende informatie te verkrijgen. Vaardigheden die u hiervoor onder andere nodig kan hebben zijn het opstellen en onderhouden van documentatie, zoals dashboards en rapportages. Het uitvoeren van ingewikkelde data-analyses waarbij u gebruikmaakt van onder andere: Microsoft Business Intelligence, SAS of Oracle BI Suite. En het inrichten, bijhouden, uitbreiden en testen van het datawarehouse. Dit doet u veelal bij een (grotere) commerciële organisatie of een consultancy- of adviesbureau.
